Rhodium24 is the new calculation and quotation tool for the metal processing industry. Starting point is uploading geometry files. The smart  recognition engine determines the basic material (plate, tube, etc.), analyzes the geometry and thus determines which operations are required and. All the variables required to automatically calculate a price are known during this step. And if variables are missing, the user can complete these manually.

With Rhodium24, Metal Heaven offers the metalworking industry a tool with several advantages:

How have we achieved this?


The Activity Based Costing method assumes that not products but activities cause costs. Metal Heaven has chosen to support this method because it provides the purest result to base a price on. Metal processing companies can map all necessary working steps, estimate how much time is needed for each step and then settle that time at the applicable rates (for example, hourly rate). If they add the material consumption, the cost price of a product follows. This ultimately results in a quotation price via a commercial surcharge or discount.

(NB For companies that are struggling with setting hourly rates, Metal Heaven will soon provide a cost allocation model. This allows companies to allocate all direct and indirect costs of a factory to the cost centers (often machines) that must be calculated.)


To enable maximum flexibility with all conceivable working steps in a calculation, we have investigated a number of options. Perhaps not surprisingly, we came across the best known and most widely used solution in the market, namely Excel! Metal Heaven has therefore integrated Excel functionality into Rhodium24, which can rely on the Excel sheets that are provided, containing the calculation tables and formulas for a specific operation on a specific machine (resource).  For laser cutting speeds for example, the tool takes into account material type, thickness, piercing time, tool paths and lead-in-time in accordance with machine specifications.

To match the usability of an offered Excel sheet with all the variables that Rhodium24 requires, offered sheets must meet a certain format. When commissioned, Rhodium24 calculates with standard values ​​in the spreadsheets. But because many factories like to use their own calculation tables, the standard Rhodium24 sheet can easily be downloaded, adjusted and uploaded back per  resource. As a result, there is complete freedom in the preparation of formulas and the calculation tables to be used.


The user is ‘in control’ when working with Rhodium24. Therefore, for each calculated component, the calculation sheet on which the price of that specific component is based can always be downloaded. This contains all values ​​that  have been used via the recognition engine. The result of the calculation can also be easily checked and tested based on the variables and tables used. It’s that simple!


Many factories naturally already rely on the calculation tables of their own CAM systems. Rhodium24 has a function available to easily import these for the WiCAM cut charts. If the files Techno Table and TimeHitCostTable of Wicam are uploaded on the ‘Wicam Excel’, all the calculation values are transferred and Rhodium24 is ready to deal with it. This procedure will probably soon be possible with the calculation tables of other CAM systems too.


In Rhodium24, companies calculate with so-called activities (working steps) and resources (machines and / or people) whose cost price  is determined with cost drivers (via cost allocation). It is the machines, people and operations that are used in a calculation at a given rate. When commissioning Rhodium24, all resources from a factory can be added to the system. This includes machines, but also manual work, for example. Together with the accompanying spreadsheets, Rhodium24 has a total picture of what a plant can and can not process; also known as capabilities. These  capabilities form the basis in a later phase to verify the manufacturability and to possibly outsource (automatic) certain working steps.

In addition to the automated calculations (such as laser cutting and folding), the user can add a multitude of operations to the calculation. Think of rolling, drilling, thread tapping, welding, assembling, deburring, etc. In the course of time, Rhodium24 adds more and more of these working steps to the automatic calculation, when the recognition engine also supplies all the required variables. This will truly make calculating metal a piece of cake!
